I saw a Sterling pickup yesterday which I've never heard of. I was coming home from the mountains and met it on the highway. I just saw it briefly when I noticed the Sterling letters in the grill. I couldn't even tell you what color it was.

I see them all the time around where I live. Then again, I see literally everything that has to do with Cummins engines around here so it's no doubt that I would see them.
I do appreciate the information on them though with that link. Always forgot about them the moment I got home.

I wondered if some guys just added those letters to his grill. I learned that there is such a truck after Googling it. Interesting.

Basically a Dodge body, isn't it?

Pretty much, but only available with a Cummins engine, I believe.

That's what I understand.

Sterling bought Ford's heavy duty truck division a number of years ago. So I see no reason to not include some real heavy duty work trucks.

I didn't know that.

For the first several years they were just re-badged Ford's.

Learned something new again.

Quick fact: For their heavier duty vehicles, they based them off of Ford trucks. This pickup is an oddball for them I suppose.
They are also bankrupt supposedly. As a friend of mine, who's in a "truck and coach mechanic" program told me he got a jacket for next to nothing, because of that.

The Bullet was discontinued after 2009 after a decision to stop selling the Sterling brand of medium to heavy-duty trucks. [4] Customer support for Sterling trucks at certain dealerships for service and parts would continue.

Freightliner, Western Star, Thomas Buses and Sterling were brands that were part of the Chrysler truck division back in the 90's - When Daimler took over (merger of equals indeed LOL) they brought Sterling back into production by badge engineering other trucks with the Sterling name.
Lets see, they used a Mitsubishi Fuso for their cab over medium duty trucks, A Ford LNT chassis for their heavy duty trucks, and Dodge Ram HD (4400,5500) line for their light duty trucks. They went dormant again in 2009. Daimler-Benz now owns all the rights to above, they kept the truck/bus lines when they sold Chrysler.
Honestly I don't know why Chrysler/Daimler revived the name, they were never anything more than re-badges and you could find better trim levels with their native brands anyway.
Fun Fact: Sterling dates back to the early 1900's and has a history of being bought, used, and discontinued (White did it after they bought them back in the 50's.)
Come to think of it.. I'm not sure Dodge offered a 4400/5500 Chassis in the US during that time, Sterling may have been the only way to get one. (Someone can correct me on this.)

Every now and then you run across a Dodge owner who swaps the grille out for a Sterling one, I always thought that was a pretty cool customization. Example shown is a bit of bro truck, but you get the idea.

Now they're just rebadged Dodg...er...Rams

It looks great! I wonder if that was what I saw.

That could be, especially if it had a bed. Far as I know, sterling only offered their version of the truck without the bed. If I had a dodge, a grille swap would definitely be a consideration.
